Never drink alone unless you're by yourself...

I don’t know if it’s because I decided to finish up the remains of the weekend beer supply by myself last night with dinner but WOW, cell phone commercials are funny!

T-Mobile is advertising for their new 5-spot plan. I’m not sure of the exact plan name but it is something where you can talk to 5 of your favorite people for free. This is the first commercial I’ve seen for T-Mobile without Catherine Zeta-I-Married-Someone-Grandpa’s-Age. Guaranteed the company will survive without her. In this commercial, Guy A wants to know why his girlfriend is saved in Guy B’s phone in one of his 5-spot. Guy B assures Guy A not to worry because there’s nothing going on. Then the ring tone “Secret Lover” starts and Guy A is clearly upset that it is his girlfriend calling for Guy B who takes the phone from Guy A and answers. Funny.

A Cingular advertisement about dropped calls entertained me while watching How I Met Your Mother, a show that usually makes me laugh but last night wasn’t nearly as entertaining as the company that claims it is “raising the bar.” In this ad, guy calls his girlfriend and makes some crack about her calling another guy. The phone drops when the girl tries to argue his comment and guy is left to discuss her “cheating” with the dead air assuming that her silence means that she is seeing another guy, possible more than one. Again, funny.

It is possible that in a buzzed state I found these hilarious. I used to get a kick out of Little Caesars’ Pizza and Miller Lite commercials. I haven’t seen any in awhile. Is Little Caesar’s even in business any longer? That reminds me, add Crazy Bread to the list of foods I consumed when growing up and haven’t had in a long time.

Although I have issues with people who use ad slogans in every day speech, as mentioned in previous post, I have no problem with people who share a good ad sighting.

my personal favorite is the guy that walks around the country stopping in odd places asking the person on the other end of the line... "can you hear me now?"

haven't seen it in a while, and can't think of the carrier, but it cracks me up every time i see it because i can't help thinking of the poor fucker on the other side of the phone sitting there saying, "yes, i can hear you", "yes, i can freaking hear you!", "yes, i can god damn hear you!!", "yes, i can fucking god damn hear you, now leave me alone you FUCK!"

makes me smile just thinking about it.

I like the one where a family of African Americans are touring the new 5 million dollar mansion they just purchased with McDonald's Monopoly coupons. "I'm Lovin' It."

I don't so much laugh at the Verizon commercial (can you hear me now?) as cry. That dude who is all their ads makes so much f-ing money, it's sick.

I saw the McDonalds one. I didn't laugh, but I should've known you would, Intol. Ha, ha.

how much money are we talking about? surely he's not making any more than $500K a year. all he does is walk around and say, 'can you hear me now', and look goofy.

It's hard to say his exact annual salary. These types of gigs don't last forever but he could make it last if he was smart with money. I knew the spokesperson for Marshall's (total worthless name dropping right now, I hope you think I'm cool) and she made $250K for every new commercial they made with her. They made 7 in one year. The Verizon dude has been around for quite some time and they have tons of different versions of commercials. His only job is to say "can you hear me now?"

...I got like three McDonald's monopoly coupons saved so far. There's this nice little mansion on the river I have my eye on. I'm Lovin' It.

You can have my McD's monopoly coupons Intol. I don't remember what this commercial I saw last night was selling but I saw one where a guy was giving mouth-to-mouth to a reindeer and for some reason, I thought this was very funny.

That is funny, Jen. I just remembered another one of my favorites but I forget what they were sellling. The theme was honesty and this guy was being honest about every. He walks into a conf room as work and says "sorry, I'm late, I had an interview...nailed it!" That cracked me up.
